Alicia Ogawa Joins Board of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation

WASHINGTON, D.C. Alicia Ogawa, an internationally known financial analyst and expert on the Japanese financial system, has joined the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation’s board of directors. The Mansfield Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes understanding and cooperation in U.S.-Asia relations through policy exchanges, U.S.-Asia dialogues, research and education.

Ogawa currently serves as Director of the Program on Alternative Investments at the Center on Japanese Economy and Business, Columbia University’s graduate business school that focuses on the understanding of Japan’s international economic and business relationships in Asia-Pacific countries. Until 2006, Ms. Ogawa was managing director at Lehman Brothers, where she managed the firm’s global equity research projects and implemented the so-called “Spitzer Settlement.”  Previously, Ms. Ogawa spent fifteen years in Tokyo where she was a top-rated bank analyst and director of research for Nikko Salomon Smith Barney.  She also worked as a research assistant to the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry on a number of U.S.-Japan trade negotiations. An authority on the Japanese financial system, Ms. Ogawa has testified in Congress, published extensively on this topic, and spoken widely on the subject of analyst conflict of interests.  Her current research interests  are on developments in Japan’s fixed income markets, financial markets regulation and corporate governance.  Ms. Ogawa graduated from Barnard College and earned a master’s degree in international affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

“It is an enormous honor to have Alicia Ogawa on the Mansfield Foundation board,” said L. Gordon Flake, Mansfield Foundation executive director. “Alicia Ogawa brings a keen understanding of Japan’s financial and economic relations not only with the United States but throughout Asia.  We look forward to having the benefit of her expertise, leadership and wise counsel on the Foundation board.”

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes understanding and cooperation in U.S.-Asia relations. Maureen and Mike Mansfield’s values, ideals and vision for U.S.-Asia relations continue through the Foundation’s exchanges, dialogues, research and educational programs, which create networks among U.S. and Asian leaders, explore the underlying issues influencing public policies, and increase awareness about the nations and peoples of Asia.  The Foundation also supports the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at The University of Montana.

The Foundation was established in 1983 to honor Mike Mansfield (1903-2001), a revered public servant, statesman and diplomat who played a pivotal role in many of the key domestic and international issues of the 20th century as U.S. congressman from Montana, Senate majority leader and finally as U.S. ambassador to Japan.  The Foundation has offices in Washington, D.C.; Tokyo, Japan; and Missoula, Montana.
