3 sites.
At KST, developed a pollution prevention training
program for KST employees.
At the Environment Agency, participated as secretariat
for "World Conference on Global Commons."
Served as an intern in the office of Diet member
Takashi Kosugi.

Current U.S. Government Assignments and Activities
At U.S. EPA, works in the Office of International Activities on environmental
health and toxic chemical issues. Provides support on U.S.-Japan environmental
activities. Staffed the U.S. delegation to the G8 Environmental Futures Forum
on Climate Change Best Practices, staffed the bilateral meeting in Japan to
plan for the Japan-U.S. Join Planning and Coordinating Committee Mtg. (JPCC),
and supported the U.S. EPA Japan Desk in preparing for the JPCC U.S.-Japan
meeting. JPCC meeting resulted in identification of several U.S.-Japan joint
activities.

during bankruptcy proceedings.
Served as a member of MITI's delegation at a
meeting for Director General Ezaki of the Industrial Policy
Bureau.
Studied how the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor
handles criminal cases brought against foreign nationals.
Monitored a bid-rigging case and trial preparations.
Post-Fellowship
Current U.S. Government Assignments and Activities Continues to be involved in Japan-related matters. Travelled
to Japan six times in 2000. Also visited Kyoto for annual consultations
between antitrust enforcement agencies in the U.S. and Japan In
November 2000, co-chaired a meeting of the Structural Issues Group
under the U.S.-Japan Enhanced Initiative on Deregulation and Competition
Policy.

Representative Activities:
At MITI, assisted in the preparation of an agreement
on lithium batteries, prepared a report on microturbine development
in the U.S., reviewed a MITI solid oxide fuel cell report,
and attended hearings on solid oxide fuel cells.
Studied budget needs for fuel cells and manufacturers
and markets for this technology.
At NEDO, visited Japanese fuel cell manufacturers,
and conducted a project cost/benefit analysis and project portfolio
analysis.
At New Energy Division, Coal and Energy Department,
researched H-turbine program, and learned about plans for COP5
and follow-up to COP4.
Served as an intern in the office of Diet member
Yoshimasa Hayashi.

Current U.S. Government Assignments and Activities
As Senior Management and Technical Advisor at the U.S. Department of Energy,
National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, West Virginia, develops
collaborative projects with Japan and Russia. Has been involved in numerous
meetings with Japan delegations and co-chaired two joint technical meetings
in Japan.

Liaison in the Office of Public Affairs. Hosts delegations of visiting
Japanese officials seeking information on a variety of environmental
issues. The office routinely hosts delegations from other Pacific
Rim countries as well.

Provided briefings on the FCC's auctions process
and legal issues surrounding PCS-microwave relocation.

long-run incremental cost, interconnection and NTT restructuring

At MPT's Advanced Network Division., toured Yokosuka
Research Park and Communications Research Laboratory.
At NTT, attended high-level confidential meetings
on NTT's interconnection rates and its proposal to devolve

Current U.S. Government Assignments and Activities Recently assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo as Assistant
Customs Attache. Following completion of the Fellowship, served
as a Field National Import Specialist at Customs in San Francisco.
In addition to regular duties administering imports of high tech
merchandise, served as a consultant to Customs Headquarters, the
State Department and the Japanese Ministry of Finance on U.S.-Japanese
bilateral customs-related matters.
