Law of the Sea
The Mansfield Foundation, in cooperation with The University of Hong Kong’s Center for Comparative and Public Law, recently organized a“Law of the Sea and Asian Maritime Disputes Conference" in Hong Kong. A public conference took place at The University of Hong Kong on May 11, 2011 and was well attended by students, faculty and journalists. The conference was preceded by a day-and-half private session among conference participants and other topical experts. The private session convened a select group of scholars, current and former government officials, policymakers, and others from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Ireland, Malaysia and the U.S. for a closed-door work session and in-depth discussion on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its relevance for resolving longstanding Asian maritime disputes.
These activities were made possible in part thanks to the generous support of The Henry Luce Foundation.
