George Dennison is president of The University of Montana. Previously,
he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at
Western Michigan University and earlier taught history and held
several administrative positions at Colorado State University,
the University of Washington, and the University of Arkansas. Since
joining The University of Montana, Dr. Dennison has helped establish
the Davidson Honors College. He has served on several national
coordinating committees promoting cooperative international research,
development projects and historic preservation.
A historian by training, Dr. Dennison received his bachelor’s
degree with high honors in history from The University of Montana
in 1962. He received his master’s degree from The University
of Montana in 1963, then earned his Ph.D. in history from the University
of Washington in 1967. He has written numerous publications and
made numerous professional presentations in both history and higher
education.
